Love Me Tender: Head to Boogie’s

Kelsey: Howdy food fans. You’re stuck with little ol’ me the next couple days as Cody has jet-setted off to the sand, surf and food mecca that is Hawaii.

  • Note: Don’t fret foodies as he’ll be making some Hawaiian related posts from his food adventures from the Aloha state.

Back here in snowy Calgary, I’d like to introduce you (if you haven’t experienced it already) to the magic that is Boogie’s Burgers. Now, this place has been around since 1969, so sufficed to say, they know what they’re doing.

With a menu full of 18 mouth-watering burgers (including salmon, chicken and veggie offerings), onion rings, fries and shakes, Boogie’s offers up fresh, hot off the grill creations that leave you with some major meat (or veggie) sweats as there is not lack of volume with each meal.

Last time we swung by Boogie’s for a bite Cody indulged in the Blazin’ Saddles burger ($8.00). Packed with two patties, cheddar, fried mushrooms, fried onions, spicy BBQ sauce and all the fixings (he also added hot peppers cuz Cody likes it hot), the Blazin’ Saddles packs a lot of spicy, fried flavour.

I went with the Fay’s Burger ($6.25), one patty, two slices of bacon, fried mushrooms, fried onions, mushroom sauce and all the fixings and good Lord was it tasty!

But, the piece de resistance of my Boogie’s experience; the one thing that will keep me coming back for another, and another, and another was the Fat Elvis milkshake.

Picture this: peanut butter, banana and bacon getting hot and heavy in a blender to produce a thick, creamy, taste-bud explosion of a milkshake. The Fat Elvis was so awesome and thick, I couldn’t wait to let it melt to fit the straw and dug in spooning it out.

Boogie’s is definitely not lacking in portion size as my shake was filled to the brim and then some. The contrast of the peanut butter with the sweet banana and salty goodness of the bacon (of which there was plenty) is why Fools Rush In for a beverage well worthy of it’s musical legend namesake.
